Cowbell Wants The Cyber Policy Out Of The Drawer

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Cowbell has launched Risk Advisor, an AI agent for its policyholders. It turns the data Cowbell collects on each business into a ranked list of actions. Each comes with its evidence.

Most cyber policies sit untouched until something goes wrong. Cowbell wants its policyholders to open theirs first.

The cyber insurer launched Risk Advisor on 5 October. It is a cyber insurance AI agent that gives each policyholder a ranked plan for reducing cyber risk. It runs in the Cowbell platform and the company’s mobile app.

Rajeev Gupta, Cowbell’s co-founder and chief product officer, said the goal is to make cyber insurance an active part of a company’s resilience, “rather than a document sitting in a drawer.”

What The Cyber Insurance AI Agent Does

Cowbell writes cyber and specialty cover for small and mid-sized businesses. Cyber Insurance News covered its 2026 claims report in April. Gupta’s example customer is a 40-person manufacturer with no security specialists on staff. He said every Cowbell policyholder gets its own Risk Advisor.

The agent pulls together data Cowbell already holds on each insured. That includes Cowbell’s risk ratings and alerts, security findings, dark web exposure, and policy details. It ranks recommended actions by urgency and likely risk reduction. Each recommendation comes with the evidence behind it.

A policyholder can ask why its risk score changed and get the specific findings behind the change, Cowbell says. The agent separates confirmed findings from possible warning signs. When a problem needs a person, it connects the policyholder with Cowbell’s in-house security staff and resiliency services.

Connectors And AI Risk Ratings

Policyholders can link their own security tools through more than 60 connectors. Cowbell listed more than 30 integrations when it expanded them in 2025. Risk Advisor summarises what those tools find and suggests fixes based on the configurations it sees.

For businesses using AI, the agent explains three Cowbell ratings. AI Exposure covers observability, AI Vulnerability covers autonomy, and AI Assurance covers governance. Risk Advisor explains the signals behind each and ranks actions to improve them.

Insurer visibility into how insureds use AI has become a recurring theme. KYND launched AI detection for underwriters last week, working from a company’s external footprint. Cowbell’s connectors add data from inside the business.

A Risk Model That Updates Itself

Risk Advisor draws on a model of each insured that Cowbell says keeps itself current. Cowbell checks the model against live data. Routine changes apply automatically. Material differences go to a person for review.

Cowbell says the model draws on data covering more than 55 million businesses.

Policyholder Risk Advice Between Renewals

The launch puts the insurer in touch with the insured between renewals, not just at them. Continuous monitoring has come up repeatedly on this beat. On the CINI podcast, Andrew Horkan of Cyber Tzar argued that compliance is a snapshot. Security changes between audits.

For a small policyholder, Cowbell’s pitch is translation. The insurer already collects the signals. A cyber insurance AI agent is meant to explain them in plain language and say what to fix first.
