Zurich North America has announced Kara Higginbotham’s appointment as the Head of Professional Liability and Cyber for U.S. National Accounts. Higginbotham will lead a team of underwriters tasked with serving the company’s largest corporate and middle-market clients in the United States.
In her new role, Higginbotham will manage the development and implementation of the underwriting strategy for Zurich’s retail professional liability and cyber insurance offerings. Additionally, she will collaborate with the Excess & Surplus teams and the SpearTip Cyber Risk Management team, which is part of Zurich Resilience Solutions. She will report directly to Brian Zink, Head of Financial Lines for U.S. National Accounts.
Higginbotham brings over 16 years of financial lines underwriting experience to the position. She is equipped with a strong background in technical underwriting and established relationships with customers and brokers. “Kara’s deep understanding of our current portfolio adds to her qualifications for this position,” said Zink.
Prior to her current role, Higginbotham joined Zurich in 2018 as the Head of Corporate Accounts for the Professional Liability and Cyber team. She recently led the segment responsible for security and privacy, miscellaneous professional liability, technology errors and omissions, and employed lawyers’ liability coverages. She will maintain her leadership over the Corporate Accounts team until her replacement is named.
Higginbotham expressed her enthusiasm for her new responsibilities, stating, “In this new role, I look forward to working closely with the management team to continue exploring areas for profitable growth and ways to support our customers’ needs now and in the future.”
Before joining Zurich, Higginbotham held various underwriting positions at another insurance provider and a mortgage due diligence company. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and is a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter.
