Formation of Cyber Risk Advisory Board
Spectra has released its new Certification of Resilience for MSPs, marking an industry first. The certification is designed to improve cyber resilience and insurance outcomes for managed service providers (MSPs).
At the same time, Spectra has announced the creation of its 2025 Cyber Risk Advisory Board. The board comprises top cybersecurity and national security experts, ensuring that the certification evolves in tandem with global threats and regulations.
Dr. Michael Sulmeyer, chair of the advisory board and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy, highlighted the significance of MSPs. “Improving their security improves the security of the nation as well,” Sulmeyer said.
Performance-Based Certification with Financial Guarantee
Unlike traditional compliance programs, Spectra’s certification focuses on verified performance. The framework aligns resilience standards directly with insurance qualification.
Certified MSPs are eligible for preferred status with brokers and insurers. Spectra refunds the service cost to the end customer if an MSP fails to meet standards.
Eric Altamura, COO of Spectra, explained the certification’s intent: “This program isn’t about theoretical compliance. It’s about verified performance aligned with the expectations of customers and insurers.”

Through partnerships with insurers and brokers, Spectra will connect certified MSPs with customers seeking trusted providers. The program reduces risk opacity for insurers, helping streamline underwriting.
