Data Breach Costs Soar, Heightening Need for New Solutions
Kyndryl has announced new data security services in collaboration with Microsoft. The launch comes as data breaches continue to hammer industries with high costs and rising cybersecurity and cyber insurance challenges.
Kyndryl’s new offering, called Kyndryl Consult Data Security Posture Management, uses Microsoft Purview technologies. The service aims to help organizations better discover, classify, and protect sensitive information across hybrid environments. Proactive data protection is the focus.

Built-in encryption, compliance management, and automated risk detection seek to lower the chances of breaches. The service provides a unified platform that simplifies IT environments and offers centralized data visibility.
Ties to Rising Breach Costs
The move comes against a troubling backdrop. Bluesight’s 2025 Breach Barometer showed healthcare breaches alone exposed 305 million records last year. One incident alone compromised data from 190 million people.
Verizon’s 2025 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) also showed a sharp rise in cyberattacks across healthcare, retail, and manufacturing industries. Cyber insurance premiums have spiked as a result.
Underwriters demand stronger cybersecurity controls before issuing or renewing coverage. According to IBM, the average cost of a healthcare data breach now sits at $9.77 million. Operational disruption and legal consequences add even more strain.
Kyndryl’s Role in Strengthening Security
According to Kyndryl, its new services focus on risk management, regulatory compliance, and building resilient IT environments. Kyndryl says organizations can better prepare for safe AI deployment by securing data. Through the partnership, Kyndryl taps Microsoft Purview’s automated discovery and policy-driven controls. The goal is continuous monitoring and swift action against potential data risks.
Tony De Bos, Vice President of Security & Resiliency at Kyndryl, said, “Organizations face tremendous challenges with managing complex IT environments while protecting sensitive data and meeting regulatory requirements.”
Microsoft’s Ricardo Davila stressed that this collaboration strengthens data security and risk management. “Together, we are enabling customers to protect their data across complex environments, so they can deliver new innovations, and achieve enhanced levels of efficiency and security,” said Davila.
Why It Matters
Healthcare, retail, manufacturing, and finance sectors now face escalating threats. Cyberattacks shift from targeting financial information to business secrets and customer data.
Our prior reporting indicates that insider misuse, third-party vendor vulnerabilities, and unpatched systems continue to be key causes of breaches; a delay in breach notification, averaging 205 days, further compounds the risk.
Kyndryl’s new services aim to create a more resilient digital environment, aligning with the urgent industry demands for enhanced data breach resilience, robust risk controls, and improved compliance readiness.
