Cybercrime is a personal financial threat, and a new workplace benefit signals a shift that addresses this reality and its impact beyond the home. Allstate introduced Scam Protection, which functions like personal cyber insurance inside employee benefits packages. The launch reflects the broad reach of digital crime. No one is immune, and distribution channels mirror other crisis-oriented benefits aimed at safeguarding households.
“Scams cost employees time, money and productivity, impacting their families and their finances,” said Caroline Slane, senior vice president of business operations at Allstate Identity Protection. “This new scam protection fills a gap by putting money back in people’s hands so they can get back on their feet.”
Allstate Introduces “First-of-Its-Kind” Reimbursement Benefit
Allstate Scam Protection reimburses employees for verified scam losses up to $50,000, including cryptocurrency theft linked to cybercrime. The coverage is available only through workplace benefits and reaches nearly 7 million employees and their families during open enrollment.
Cybercrime continues to strain workers. Allstate Identity Protection recovered $33.2 million in potential identity theft losses in 2024. New account fraud produced $23.3 million in actual losses, with additional exposure from fraudulent applications. Each case demands time and attention during work hours, which impacts productivity.
Holiday Fraud Drives Employer Demand
Fraud spikes during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Phishing attempts, fake retailers, and scam links dominate the season. Employers now add Scam Protection to benefits packages as digital crime escalates. The FTC reported $12.5 billion in fraud losses in 2024. AI-generated phishing messages and deepfake impersonation schemes now challenge even cautious users.
