Nation Faces Ongoing Cyber Warfare Threats

“Most people do not realize that our nation is under attack – indeed ongoing cyber warfare – by hostile nation state actors,” said Geoff Halstead of Faction Networks. The comment highlighted the urgency of a new cybersecurity and cyber liability insurance partnership between Faction Networks and SUNY Albany’s College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity (CEHC).

Collaboration Targets Cyber Insurance Innovation

Announced Monday, the collaboration aims to advance cybersecurity testing and verification while developing new models for cyber liability insurance. The project also focuses on creating risk frameworks that reduce costs for cyber insurers and clients.

Faction will integrate its proprietary Zero Trust networking hardware into CEHC labs, allowing students to test real-world cybersecurity applications and insurance-related risk scenarios.

Hands-On Training to Build the Next Cyber Workforce

The initiative connects classroom learning with operational cybersecurity practices. CEHC faculty and students will participate in lab-based demonstration programs and business pilot projects across New York’s Capital Region.

“Our partnership with Faction Networks enhances the hands-on, applied learning opportunities that define CEHC,” said Dr. Ariel Pinto, Chair and Professor of the Cybersecurity Department. He emphasized that the collaboration helps prepare students to defend national infrastructure against digital threats.

Public-Private Partnerships for National Security

Halstead called the effort a model for how academia, government, and private industry must collaborate to respond to escalating cyber threats from actors in China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran.

“Our cybersecurity platform, software and hardware into CEHC’s labs, we’re not only helping to improve our products, but also to develop the next generation of professionals equipped to secure the networks and digital infrastructure upon which our economy, military and society depend,” said Halstead.

Faction Networks will showcase the partnership on Nov. 7 at the “State of Grace: Women in Tech” conference at SUNY Albany. The event will highlight public-private strategies for cyber resilience and insurance innovation.
