Two carriers made cyber personnel moves on the same day. CFC hired from Coalition again. Arch promoted from within.
Cyber insurance carriers keep spending on people. On July 14, CFC named Gemma Hicks Cyber Development Manager for Australia. The same day, Arch Insurance International promoted Sophie Law to Cyber Underwriting Manager in London. One move builds distribution. The other consolidates underwriting leadership. Both signal continued investment in cyber talent.
CFC Hires Gemma Hicks From Coalition For Australia
CFC announced the appointment of Gemma Hicks as Cyber Development Manager, Australia. Hicks joins from Coalition. She will work with brokers across Australia to simplify cyber risk conversations and support adoption.
CFC describes Australia as a market where cyber insurance remains significantly underpenetrated. That is the carrier’s characterization, not an independent finding. The company cites growing demand and rising exposure as the opportunity.
“Gemma’s appointment is a clear signal of how seriously we’re investing in Australia,” said Lindsey Maher, CFC’s Head of Global Cyber Development.
Hicks said the timing suits the market. “I’m excited to be joining CFC at a time when awareness of cyber risk continues to grow across the Australian market,” she said.
Anita Lane, Managing Director of CFC Australia, framed the hire as sustainable scaling. “Scaling sustainably means strengthening our presence on the ground,” Lane said.
The Coalition Pipeline Keeps Flowing
Hicks is the third Coalition alum to join CFC’s cyber development function in under a year. John Keebler joined as National Cyber Development Leader for the USA in October 2025. Morgan Justice arrived from Coalition in the same expansion. Both built Coalition’s broker-facing business before crossing over.
The pattern is notable even if CFC has not framed it as one. All three arrived with broker-facing distribution experience built at Coalition. Maher described the newest move as “bringing recognized talent into the business and continuing to build a truly local cyber development team.” Whatever the intent, the effect is a development function stocked with Coalition-trained distribution hands.
The Hicks hire also extends a busy stretch for CFC. The carrier named Justin Camara CEO of CFC USA in December. In April, it launched Lane Assist, a live agentic underwriting pilot. The through line is clear. Automation handles routine submissions. Humans handle brokers.
Arch Promotes Sophie Law To Cyber Underwriting Manager
Arch Insurance International promoted Sophie Law to Cyber Underwriting Manager, effective immediately. Law oversees underwriting across the cyber portfolio. That book spans cyber, tech E&O, and media E&O across multiple territories and sectors. She is based in London and reports to James Barrett, Head of Cyber & Healthcare.
Law brings nearly 13 years of underwriting experience. She arrived at Arch in 2019. She previously held an underwriting role at Hiscox.
“Sophie has built a reputation for her underwriting excellence and developing trusted relationships with brokers and clients in a dynamic and fast-evolving cyber market,” Barrett said.
The promotion continues a run of cyber activity at Arch. The carrier added a cyber extension to event cancellation coverage in January. In April, it expanded primary cyber coverage into Canada with Arch CyPro.
Why It Matters
Rates are softening across much of the cyber market. Carriers are responding by investing in people, not retreating. CFC is betting that local distribution expertise unlocks underpenetrated markets. Arch is consolidating underwriting authority under proven hands. Brokers should read both moves the same way. Carriers still see cyber as a growth line worth staffing for.
FAQ – Cyber Insurance Executives
Gemma Hicks is CFC’s new Cyber Development Manager for Australia. She joins from Coalition. She will support brokers across the Australian market on cyber insurance adoption and portfolio growth.
Sophie Law is the new Cyber Underwriting Manager at Arch Insurance International. She oversees the cyber, tech E&O, and media E&O portfolio. She is based in London and reports to James Barrett, Head of Cyber & Healthcare.
The role supports brokers rather than underwriting risks directly. Development managers educate brokers, simplify cyber risk conversations, and help grow cyber portfolios in a local market.
CFC has not described Coalition hiring as a strategy. The pattern is documented. Three Coalition alumni have joined its cyber development function since October 2025. Maher said the Hicks appointment reflects “bringing recognized talent into the business” as CFC builds a local team.
