Michael Lewis will join CFC in January 2025 as Cyber Development Manager. This appointment strengthens CFC’s cyber team in Australia. He spent two years at Emergence Insurance as a business development underwriter. He will operate from CFC’s office in Melbourne.
Lewis’s role is CFC’s first dedicated cyber business development position in Australia. His focus will be broker partnerships and addressing gaps in cyber coverage.
Of the new role, Lewis said, “CFC has blazed a trail in the global cyber market, being the first to develop an in-house cyber threat monitoring and alerts capability for policyholders as well as its own in-house 24/7 cyber incident response team.” Lewis added, “I’m truly excited to join the team and relish the challenge of helping Australian brokers become cyber specialists and working together to close the protection gap.”
Cyber Business Development
Lindsey Nelson, Head of Cyber Development at CFC, notes the significance of Lewis’s experience. She points to the need for broader cyber insurance. “While we’ve had an incident response team on the Gold Coast for the several years now, Mike will be our first-ever dedicated cyber business development resource hired locally,” said Nelson.
In the press release announcing the news, CFC noted that Australian businesses often lack coverage against attacks. CFC aims to ensure more brokers can offer cyber protection.
“We recognise that many Australian businesses do not have insurance protection against cyber attacks, which is all the more worrying given the significant and pervasive cyber risk. To address that glaring gap, we’re on a mission to ensure that every Australian broker has access to our award-winning cyber cover and Mike is going to play a crucial role in helping us achieve this ambition,” Nelson said.
