Human Factors Central in Cyber Breach Incident Response
A wave of recent hacks exploited social engineering, underlining human error as a leading cause of cyber breaches. Incident response requires technical skills and human endurance. The burden on breach responders often goes overlooked. A new cyber insurance offering seeks to address this reality.
Remember The Incident Responder
Berkley Cyber Risk Solutions, a Berkley Company, now offers a new Incident Responder Enhancement Endorsement to support these teams. The endorsement reimburses out-of-pocket expenses incurred during breach events. Covered costs include canceled vacations, child or elder care, and corporate safety measures. Crisis counseling is also provided. Coverage features $0 retention and applies outside policy liability limits.
“Cyber Crisis”
Rich Sheridan, Chief Claims Officer at Berkley Cyber Risk Solutions, stated: “The financial burdens faced by employees on the front lines of breach events can inhibit their ability to address the crisis without distraction.”
Tracey Vispoli, President of Berkley Cyber Risk Solutions, said, “We believe that this additional coverage will help ease some of the overlooked burdens that incident responders are forced to handle when tasked with managing tense cyber crises.”
This latest offering from Berkley highlights their evolving view of incident response: Human error can come in many forms. Protecting both systems and the people who manage them from this reality should be a priority.
