AXIS Capital has announced leadership changes within its cyber insurance division as part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at aligning operations with market demands. In announcing the news, the company noted that it is positioning itself to respond more efficiently to evolving cyber risks, emphasizing tighter integration and clearer reporting lines across its Global Cyber & Technology (GCT) unit. Two internal promotions and a consolidation of leadership roles are central to this realignment.
Peter Smith to Lead Cyber North America
AXIS Capital announced that Peter Smith will now serve as Head of Cyber North America. He will guide the company’s cyber underwriting strategy across North America. Smith has been with AXIS since 2020 and most recently led Middle Market Strategy. He brings prior experience from Swiss Re and Marsh.
Tara Sapru to Oversee Technical Underwriting
Tara Sapru has been named Head of Technical Underwriting for the Global Cyber & Technology (GCT) unit. She joined AXIS in 2019, following over a decade at AIG, where she held various legal and claims-focused roles. She will now lead product management and portfolio oversight for the cyber insurance business.

Leadership Streamlining Leads to Exits
The realignment also resulted in the departure of three senior team members. Eric Seyfried, Glen Manjos, and Simon Dejung are leaving the company as their roles are being eliminated. This includes the roles of Head of Cyber US Open Market, Head of Wholesale Cyber, and Cyber Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).
Integration of Wholesale Cyber
AXIS is merging its Wholesale Cyber unit into the North American GCT structure. The restructured team will report to Smith. The move aims to enhance underwriting performance and focus on profitable growth in the cyber insurance market.
Company Background
AXIS Capital operates globally, providing specialty insurance and reinsurance. As of March 2025, it reported $5.9 billion in shareholder equity. The company holds “A+” and “A” ratings from Standard & Poor’s and A.M. Best, respectively.
